2011. 2012.

There's a fine invisible line between 2011 and 2012 and of course is the line which everyone at every corner of the Earth will crossed between 11.59pm in 2011 and 12am in 2012 !!! OMG

Goodbye 2011 and hello 2012 !!!

All happiness and bitterness that 2011 had offered is going to pass and end . 2011 is a particular memorable year for me ( even if it's rather bittersweet, but I assure you that happiness is way more than sadness !!!)
Let's see what 2012 has in store for us, shall we ? :)

Writing a Novel !

Months ago, I promised Joyce and Khai Xin to write a medieval-themed story for them as a token of our sisterhood. And so, I'm going to keep my promise and start writing ! :)
Perhaps I could make this story in a series too ! ( Way too much experience and love for book series, see post below)
But umm, for the time being, I'll be writing a single book. :D
http://akingdomofroses.blogspot.com/

Here're the insights : ( Especially for you ladies :D )

Title of the upcoming book : The Kingdom of Roses ( And it's final ! )
Genre: Medieval( Middle Ages) Classic, Romance, Adventure, Action, Comedy and a tiny hint of fantasy
Settings : Main settings:  Kingdom of Teragon, Kingdom of Zernia , Kingdom of Sillas ( Final choices! )
Characters :
Main characters: Princess Liesliana Cordillus of Teragon, Princess Eveline Cordillus of Teragon, Princess Kathleena of Teragon . ( Final choices ! )
Summary:

Battles between the three houses of Kingdom of Zernia are raging for several months and shows no sign of stopping . They start to affect the people in Teragon like wild fire. Terror and uncertainty spreads and these are the darkest days. King James of Teragon sends groups of knights to aid Houses of Kentize and Viseburn against House of Taiga at their request and at the sake of his own people. Little does he know that the battles has never shown any signs of stopping but get even worse than before. His knights are injured very badly and words spread that the knights of Taiga are heading south to Teragon. It seems that they are confident that they can seize the throne of mighty Teragon too, together with the throne of Zernia which is quite insecure at the moment. Many unanswered questions surface with this odd and unexpected occurrence . Things start to get weird and suspicious within the walls of the castle of Teragon as the knights of Taiga get closer.

Meanwhile, Princess Liesliana gets to the wrong side of his father, King James with her disguise as a man called Sir Julian and brings about troubles for herself. Princess Eveline resurfaces after a period of sadness that strikes the kingdom some fifteen years ago. Princess Kathleena’s sense of fun finally gets the best of her but her role is nevertheless well-played.

What will happen to the Kingdom of Teragon as the knights of Taiga ride in? Will Princesses Liesliana, Eveline and Kathleena be able to go through all troubles and help to save the kingdom ?

Explanations on the Middle Ages ( Medieval) :
The Middle Ages (adjectival form: medievalmediaeval or mediæval) is a periodization ofEuropean history from the 5th century to the 15th century. The Middle Ages follows the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 and precedes the Early Modern Era. It is the middle period of a three-period division of Western history: Classic, Medieval and Modern. The term "Middle Ages" first appears in Latin in the 15th century and reflects the view that this period was a deviation from the path of classical learning, a path that was later reconnected by Renaissance scholarship.

The first chapter will be up soon ! :D

Books. Series.

These recent years, I have slipped into a unusual habit.
Tend to read books which are in a series.
And there'll be 5 or 6 books in a particular series.
In fact, all these years, I have only read three extremely famous book series.
All the other books in the market don't appeal to me, at all.
And the book series are none other than HARRY POTTER series and  PERCY JACKSON series ( Percy Jackson and the Olympians & The Heroes of Olympus ) .
I really couldn't figure out why.
Maybe I'm just too used to the old and familiar stuffs ? And I have somehow developed deep relationships with the books and its characters.
That might be the ultimate reasons.
But right now, as you know( unless you live in a cave somewhere in a jungle), the HARRY POTTER series and the PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS series were long been published and of course, I had finished reading them.
All that's left is THE HEROES OF OLYMPUS series, which only leaves 2 or 3 books to complete it.
I shuddered to think what I'll be reading then.
Maybe before my time is up with this book series, I'll need to find a new 'attachment' .
That's just sad.
Or perhaps I can finally lay my hands on those solitary books in the market...
We'll see how everything goes then.
To be frank, I couldn't really imagine me reading just an ordinary book right off the bookshelf...
Been lost touch for 5 years, to be exact...but of course with a few exceptional cases ( i.e. self-motivation books, self-help books, history books and a few extraordinary novels)...
The time will come, or maybe it won't, for me to shop for singular jewel in seas of books...

Here're a few book series that aren't my cup of tea :
The Inkheart series :  ( but maybe this will after I explore it a little bit further )

The Kane Chronicles series :

The 39 Clues series :

Twilight series :  ( Particularly this one... I had my reasons )

And so on...

Book series that are in my collection now :

Harry Potter series :

And books related to the Harry Potter world :

( The above books are the total number of books which are written by J.K Rowling about the Harry Potter world. It also means that it's the total number of books written by her for all these years as she didn't write anything rather than Harry Potter stuffs. )

Percy Jackson and the Olympians :

Book related to Percy Jackson world :

I'm still missing a book about the Percy Jackson world, which is the Percy Jackson Ultimate Guide.

The Heroes of Olympus :

Christmas Special: Short Story # 2

The House with the Yellow Door

I woke up to the sound of birds chirping and soft Christmas carols. Rubbing the tiredness out of my eyes, I walked toward the window and to my amazement, it had started snowing and everything was covered in thick white snow. Thinking about how lovely it would be to be the first person to set foot on the untouched fallen snow, I quickly dressed and headed out.

The chilly breeze was blowing and the rays of sunlight made the snow glitter. I walked around the garden and made tiny snowballs with my gloved hand absently as I went.

A sound of plates and cups breaking as they fell to the floor pierced the peaceful and quiet Christmas morning. I looked up and sure enough, the noises were coming from the opposite house with the yellow door. I sighed and wondered what could have happened in this particular lovely day.

There were quite a lot of strange happenings in the house of the yellow door. I had never seen the residents of this very house, nor did my family and the entire neighbourhood for that matter. Many claimed that they saw them coming out once in a while at night but there wasn’t any solid proof. Hence, everyone had learned to ignore the house with the yellow door. Weirdly enough, nobody had ever knocked on the door to meet the people living inside. To be frank, nobody dared to try.

I turned my back firmly on the house and decided to have some breakfast. But the next thing that happened changed my mind.

Someone inside the house was yelping and howling in pain. And then, in a matter of seconds, a fire broke out and the window curtain was burning.

Without thinking or even realising what I was doing, I ran forward to the mysterious house with the yellow door. What I would do after that, I had no idea, and I didn’t stop to think.

I allowed my instincts to take over. I literally banged open the door  (which had never been opened before, I assumed) and the scene that awaited me scared me out of my wits.

An old man was lying on the floor with one of his legs artificial and his remaining limbs full of bruises and scars. Debris of the plates and cups that he broke earlier were scattered all over the floor and the fire was now spreading to the walls.

‘Sir! Sir!’ I shouted. ‘Can you hear me?’

He just laid motionless on the floor.

I looked around the stuffy ancient house and spotted a fire extinguisher at a corner. I dashed towards it and started putting out the fire. After a few attempts, I succeeded. Sweating and panting, I ran toward to the old man.

His eyes snapped open and he said to me in a hoarse voice,

     ‘Thank you, lassie,’

     ‘Are you okay, Sir?’

‘Fine, fine,’ he said. But obviously he wasn’t fine at all.

‘Do you need to go to the doctor?’ I asked urgently.

‘No, no! I’ll be fine,’ he said in a firm and somewhat frustrated voice. To prove that he was indeed fine, he stood up slowly by using his walking stick.

I looked at him for a moment and then around the house. A quarter of the house was badly burned, debris scattered everywhere, chairs overturned and the windows were rusty and dusty. The house looked like it hadn’t seen sunlight in a thousand years and there were unidentified weird smells coming from the rooms.

‘Well, aren’t you leaving?’ the old man asked.

‘Yeah, I’ll be going then,’ I replied uncertainly.

I turned to leave but before I could, he called out,

‘Thank you. You saved my life,’

‘You’re welcome. Merry Christmas,’ I said and gave him a little smile.

He didn’t say a word and so I stepped outside and closed the yellow door, which I had a strong suspicion that it would never be opened again for a long time. I stood at the doorstep, stunned. Everything that had happened was slowly coming back to me. I couldn’t believe what I had just done.

I was in such a dreamy state that I didn’t recall walking back to my house. I also didn’t realise I picked up a miniature Christmas tree at the garden. I was certainly surprised at myself when I placed the tree at the doorstep of the house with the infamous yellow door.

Christmas Special: Short Story # 1

Lost Love Found

‘It’s the most beautiful time of the year…Lights fill the street spreading so much cheer…I should be playing in the winter snow… Imma be under the mistletoe…’

Charlotte just entered her room after decorating the Christmas tree and this particular song was playing on the radio. She stopped in her tracks and stood rooted to the spot. Some rather depressing memories was coming back to her and she was almost at the verge of crying.

This Christmas song was the song that he used to sing to her. This was also the song which they listened to when they strolled at the park at night and everywhere for that matter. This was their song.

He was her boyfriend, well, ex-boyfriend, since they broke up last month. The scene was still frustratingly fresh in her mind.

‘So what’ve you been doin’ these days huh?’ Charlotte asked with her face red in rage.

‘Told you, Sweetie Pie, I’ve been busy with the History project,’ replied Lucas calmly.

‘But I don’t think that’s the case,’ she said. Any seconds now, she was going to explode.

    ‘What do you mean?’

‘Oh, I don’t know. Maybe… CUDDLING UP WITH JESSICA CHASE?’

‘No, I didn’t! How can you say that?’ said Lucas hotly.

‘I saw you KISSING HER!’ yelled Charlotte.

     ‘I didn’t!’ defended Lucas.

‘You did! And don’t even bother to deny it! Saying that you two were doing the project together, but in actual fact, no, you’re getting so cosy together,’

‘I didn’t kiss her, alright? She kissed me!’

‘You should have pushed her away then, but you didn’t!’

     ‘I know I should have done that… but…’

‘But what? Is she too pretty for you to resist? Let’s just…just not see each other anymore, shall…shall we?’ said Charlotte, tears flowing down her cheeks as she ran away.

‘Charlotte! CHARLOTTE!’ Lucas called after her.

And this wasn’t the most miserable part yet. Turned out, Lucas didn’t even like Jessica but Jessica was crazy over him. In the end, Lucas rejected her and left her heartbroken.

Charlotte returned to her senses. She looked out the window and saw Christmas lights hanging on trees and houses, people talking and laughing and a kid putting a Santa hat on a snowman. Lucas used to put ridiculous hats on her head just to make her feel warm, but she’d tell him that they just made her looked silly...

Finally Charlotte couldn’t stand it anymore. She walked out of her room and headed off to Lucas’s house. Ready to apologise but didn’t really know what to expect. Would he take her back? Would he say he’s sorry too? Would he tell her that he missed her so? Millions of questions popped into her head and she was afraid what the answers were.

Charlotte knocked and Lucas’s father answered the door.

     ‘Oh hello, Miss Grace,’

‘Hi Mr Joseph, is Lucas home?’

‘Yes, please wait for a moment,’ he smiled and called his son.

But Lucas didn’t come out. He didn’t even respond.

Charlotte and Lucas’s father looked at each other awkwardly. Finally he said kindly-
‘Maybe he’s busy with something… Come again tomorrow,’

     ‘Ok, I will,’

Just when Charlotte started to walk home, an idea came to her. Maybe she could call him under his window? Or perhaps she could sit on a bench at the garden and wait for Lucas to come out? She chose the latter.

It was freezing cold and chilly wind was blowing. It seemed foolish to Charlotte now to be sitting out there, freezing herself to death. Nearly 10 minutes had passed and yet Lucas hadn’t showed himself. Oh well, maybe he was avoiding me, thought Charlotte.

     Just then-

‘What do you think you’re doing?’

Charlotte jumped. She turned around and to her astonishment, Lucas was standing there. Indeed he was.

‘Lucas…I…I was just waiting for you,’ replied Charlotte in a small voice.

‘And getting yourself sick in the process, I see,’ said Lucas with a tiny hint of amusement carefully concealed.

‘I’m so sorry, Lucas! I truly am! I shouldn’t…I just thought…’ Charlotte blurted out before she could stop herself.

Lucas held up his hand and said,

     ‘Drop it. I’m sorry I didn’t make myself plainer. I’m sorry I didn’t run after you…and I…’

The rest of his sentence was halted abruptly because Charlotte had leaped forward and thrown herself into his arms. She was crying uncontrollably on his shoulder.

‘ There, there, Sweetie Pie,’ Lucas patted her back. ‘Did you know that you have just given me the most precious Christmas present?’

‘What’s that?’ asked a teary Charlotte , lifting her head from Lucas’s shoulder.

‘You.’ replied Lucas simply and smiled warmly at her.

They looked at each other and slowly his lips found hers. A truly blissful reunion on a wonderful Christmas Eve.
